Nice post! I was at a wine tasting organized by a friend of mine and out of 8 2001 German Rieslings we tasted, the Willi Schaefer was my second favorite. My top ranked wine was from Willi Haag but it was an Auslese, so not a completely fair comparison. The Schaefer wine has impeccable balance, great acidity and was drinking incredibly well. Did not realize the estate was so small!

Your comments on Willi Schaefer, his family, and his wines makes one want to travel to the Mosel. Of course that photo of the ’95 Graacher Domprobst Auslese Goldkapsel is so beautiful that I can almost taste the wine. Thanks.
